The most sustainable way you can go about your clothes is by simply wearing them for as long as possible and not buying new/second-hand clothes unless needed. Here are tips on how to extend the longevity of your clothes!
Denim
Frequently washing your clothes is not a good idea because of the chemicals and micro-plastics the fabric gives off which then reaches our waterways. Denim is especially durable and thick, so you don’t need to wash them very often. Some advise to wash your denim every 3 wears and some say every 10 wears. I think its best to wear your jeans until the fabric has stretched a lot and they lay baggy on you, or until they smell. This way you aren’t allowing near as much pollutants into our waterways and your denim will last much longer.
Fast Fashion
To sustainably wash your fast fashion pieces, hand wash them. This minimizes the amount of micro plastics, chemicals, and fibers released. Using a shorter wash cycle at a low temperature while also not washing that often is also beneficial to the environment and the longevity of your clothes.
