How to Buy Ethically

Ultimately, it is difficult to find stores that do not participate in fast fashion, though it is very doable. To buy ethically, buy clothes made of natural fabrics such as cotton, linen, and silk. These materials decompose after a handful of weeks or months while materials like nylon and polyester can take tens to hundreds of years. In addition to this, do not over consume. Over consumption contributes to the short lifespan of trends, which as said before, creates mass amounts of waste and adds to the cycle. Next, avoid animal furs. Clothing, shoes, etc. made with animal skin are usually not made ethically. These animals are raised on fur farms, solely for the purpose of their fur and do not live in healthy environments. Lastly, buy second hand. There are fundamentally only pros to buying second hand. Though it may be hard to find ethical stores, it is very simple to live sustainability.

Some people much rather purchase new clothes rather than used clothes. Unfortunately, this often leads people to go the easy way and buy from fast fashion. Fast fashion is way more accessible compared to ethical brands because ethical stores often do not have as big of a name and are not in malls. To buy new while still being sustainable, a website I highly recommend is goodonyou.eco! This website provides ratings of high-end brands to smaller businesses to how ethical they are. The rating is divided into three categories: planet, people, and animals. This website helps me find great brands for any article of clothing I want. As said, fast fashion is often the easy route to buying new clothes, though this harms our planet immensely. There are very simple ways where we can prevent this!
