Ethical fashion is the production and distribution of clothes that does not damage our Earth, people, and animals.
It is very common for brands to make clothes using cheap materials, such as polyester, and pay their workers incredibly below minimum wage (a few cents for each piece of clothing) in countries such as China. This process is typically referred to as fast-fashion. Nearly all big name brands such as H&M, Zara, Shein, GAP, and Brandy Melville are considered fast-fashion. This harms our Earth greatly by creating so much clothing waste that can take over a century to decompose and using extreme amounts of water, creating 10% of global carbon emissions. Fast-fashion also encourages trends to be incredibly short and fast moving. Shein uploads 6,000 different pieces of clothing to their website daily. These trendy clothes are being bought at rapid rates by consumers. Other brands see these new trends and start producing and distributing their own versions of it. Then, it is a new day and Shein uploads another 6,000 pieces of clothing. Because of this ongoing cycle, fast fashion workers are continued to not be treated and payed well and our Earth is getting polluted at an incredibly rapid rate, excessive amounts of water are being used, and carbon dioxide is being released superabundantly.
